Refurbished arts space Varcoe Foundry reopened earlier this month in conjunction with the launch of Country Arts SA’s new live music series Soundworks.
Almost 100 patrons attended this special event in the former windmill factory adjacent to the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre in Mount Gambier.
Assistant Minister for Arts Sarah Andrews was in attendance to celebrate the fit-for-purpose creative development and presentation venue.
“A foundry is where raw material is heated, shaped and transformed into something strong enough to last. That is a fitting image for this building,” she said.
“Varcoe Foundry may no longer be forging windmills from iron and brass, but it continues to be a place of transformation – where ideas are tested, voices are strengthened, and stories become performances that can move through this region and well beyond.”
