Country Arts SA recognises that we are living and creating on First Nations Lands and we are committed to working together to honour their living cultures.
Our First Nations Program supports Aboriginal artists to tell their stories using both traditional and new art forms. Our program helps youth reconnect with their culture through art and encourages more people to participate in art-based activities.
Country Arts SA works closely with other state arts organisations such as Ku Arts, Arts SA, Tandanya and Carclew Youth Arts to deliver more services and support to South Australia’s regional First Nations artists.
A state-wide First Nations Advisory Committee advises Country Arts SA on programs, protocols, and policymaking.
At every stage of a relevant project’s development, Country Arts SA aims to work with artists and organisations in respecting and acknowledging First Nations people and their culture.
To continue this work we have developed a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) covering 2014 – 2016. In 2018 we have released out 2018-2020 Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan.
We also have a statewide First Nations Creative Producer, Nikki Ashby, who is responsible for creating new arts experiences led by First Nations communities and artist and to support artists to develop their craft and build careers.
