A new youth committee has been formed by young people aged under 20 from across the Tatiara region. They are passionate about engaging young people and creating initiatives for all young people.
The new committee is now a recognized channel for communication between the Tatiara District Council and young people in and around the Tataira. Their aim is to regularly support and organise youth-oriented arts and community events in their community. The Committee’s priority is to create a safe and open space for young people to discuss issues that relate to them.
They kicked off an awareness campaign during the region’s National Youth Week celebrations where they planned, organised and ran a free youth concert featuring Millicent band Calling Utopia (pictured, along with 3 YAC members) as well as an extensive workshop program in conjunction with the local Council.
In addition to Youth Week events, the group are working with Bordertown’s long running Bordertown Arts Council to present the Country Arts SA Shows on the Road touring program which brings a diverse selection of performing arts experiences to the region.
The Youth Committee are presenting the upcoming Country Arts SA show ‘Road Trip’ featuring comedians Damian Callinan and Mickey D at the Tatiara Civic Centre on May 2, 7.30pm.
