World Rhythms: Nick Parnell – Concert and Demo

Award-winning percussionist Nick Parnell takes you on an exotic musical journey. From the passion of the Tango, to the beats of Brazil – the earthy sounds of marimba, vibraphone and pulsating drums will leave you spellbound! Vocalist Joy Hague (previously of ARIA winning vocal group The Idea of North) joins Nick to bring you some beautiful songs including traditional African spirituals and Leaonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

The one hour show also features Albeniz’s Asturias and the world premiere of Parnell’s new percussion solo World Rhythms.

Nick has always loved the music of Africa, and after seeing Joy perform with The Idea of North, Nick knew right away she would be the perfect fit for this project. He says, “The marimba has a strong connection to Africa, so it is the ideal accompaniment to the much-loved vocally-driven spiritual songs, and Joy has the perfect voice to blend with marimba”. Joy too is looking forward to the performance, saying “I’ve long enjoyed Nick’s performances. They are incredibly dynamic and moving”.

Nick’s South Australian tour comes off the back of a busy 2012 schedule which included
performances at the Australian High Commission in London (coinciding with the UK release of his ABC Classics albums), a sell out performance with concert pianist Simon Tedeschi (whose current album is no. 1 on the classical music Limelight charts), and tours to VIC and ACT. World Rhythms will tour to the Adelaide Fringe, Clare, Orroroo, Goolwa and Murray Bridge. Nick & Joy will also present school specific performances as part of the tour.

Nick’s performances are proudly supported by Westminster School, CGS Chattered Accountants, Cowell Electric, Mogas Regional and the Foot and Leg Centre. The performance in Goolwa is presented by Alexandrina Council, Country Arts SA and the Australia Council for Just Add Water.
