Adelaide Hills artist Tony Hannan ran a series of workshops at the Cambrai Library during the January school holidays. These sessions however, weren’t just for kids – adults were invited to roll up their sleeves and join in too.
Over the five days Tony offered the local community the chance to participate in various craft activities such as making paper lanterns, shadow puppets, cardboard hats and paper fish windsocks. Also during the week, large collaborative artworks began to gradually take shape.
These projects included a giant inflatable 3m cube and several ‘fish’ windsocks, one of which was a ‘perch’, another turned into a ‘half fish half chicken’ and the third became a super-sized hairy nosed wombat. During the month of January these windsocks were flying outside the library and will be displayed at future community events.
These colourful, creative arts experiences, strengthened community by promoting networking and assisting locals to meet new people. A great time was had by all who attended and many have been inspired to continue to share and learn new artistic skills.
