Nebula Artists Announced for 2023

Country Arts SA’s professional development program for visual artists, Nebula, will next month bring eight regional artists to Adelaide for three days of workshops, forums, talks and networking opportunities centred upon strengthening professional arts practice.

Nebula is held during SALA Festival in August whilst there’s a hive of activity and a spotlight on visual arts across the state. The program aims to nurture and extend creative arts practices and build skills and knowledge that will help recipients take the next steps in their career.

The artists were chosen from across the state. The eight regional artists are: Delphine Allert (Kingston SE, Limestone Coast), Lynette Anstey (Loxton, Riverland), Lottie Emma (Angaston, Barossa), Meg Mader (Clare, Mid North), Kristal Matthews (Ngarrindjeri Country, Fleurieu), Kristy Murdock (Mannum, Murraylands) Rebecca Nowikow (Cummins, Eyre Peninsula), Karen Slape (Riverton, Mid-North).

The selected artists work across mediums of painting, public art, collage, illustration, textiles and fibre art.

These participants will join up in Adelaide with the view to cultivate relationships between artists from South Australia’s regional areas, as well as with metro-based artists, gallery directors and curators.

Country Arts SA Visual Arts Manager Lauren Mustillo said Nebula has become a sought-after professional development program, giving regional artists the knowledge and confidence to strengthen their practice.

“We look forward to welcoming the participants to Adelaide. The artists were selected from a highly competitive field of applicants around the state which shows how highly regarded NEBULA is as a life-changing career opportunity. These participants will get the once-in-a-lifetime access to some of South Australia’s most esteemed arts professionals, respected artists and industry leaders.”

The 2023 artists will join an active and thriving cohort of alumni across the State.
