Artist Mark de Nys is working with the Nangwarry community to create a large sculpture that will be installed in the heart of the town.
The recently unveiled marquette depicts the history of the town’s forestry which began in the 1930’s. The sculpture will include a 2.5 metre pine tree log in stainless steel with stories from the community etched onto the surface symbolising the growth rings of the tree.
There are many wonderful stories from the diverse multicultural community, including the Seven Sisters Corner, the House of Hope and tales from the Prisoner of War camp.
With the downturn in the local industries recently, the community are hoping the sculpture will give the town a bit of life.
