As a special treat for patrons, Adelaide-based artist Andrew Clarke will visit Renmark to host a discussion after the Friday screening and a pre-screening Connect talk at 1.30pm on Saturday, free for all attendees.

Clarke, who is a graduate from Adelaide Central School of Art – considers the role of figuration and narrative within contemporary painting practice and will lead an informative discussion around artistic practice.

On Saturday, following the film at 4pm, Clarke will lead a painting workshop exploring Van Gogh’s technique.  Previous experience recommended.  Film+Workshop Package only $40pp


The Connect program for the Exhibition on Screen film Van Gogh: Of Wheat Fields And Clouded Skies will be hosted by Andrew Clarke. Andrew Clarke is an artist based in Adelaide, South Australia, whose work considers the role of figuration and narrative within contemporary painting practice.  Andrew graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art in 2015 completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts and has undertaken previous studies in visual arts at the UNSW College of Fine Arts in Sydney. Andrew is a represented artist with the Hill Smith Gallery as well as a founding member and member of the committee of the artist run studio and gallery Floating Goose Studios Inc. Andrew teaches painting and drawing at both Adelaide Central School of Art and Flinders University (Education Department).

4-5.30pm               Van Gogh Technique Workshop, Renmark High School Art Room,

Following the screening, we will walk over to the high school together.

Exhibition on Screen – Van Gogh Technique Workshop

During this workshop participants will experiment with different means of adding interest and poetry to a simple painting of objects with reference to technical approaches implemented by Van Gogh.  The emphasis will be upon the act of observation and the translation from the real to the pictorial. The workshop will focus upon drawing, compositional decision making, the use of colour and the mark of the brush.
