Country Arts SA is proud to present the 2021 Breaking Ground exhibition Ngatchu Yarta – My Country by Juanella McKenzie.

Ngatchu Yarta – My Country invites audiences on a journey into Adnyamathanha Yarta (the Flinders Ranges), as seen through the eyes and heart of Adnyamathanha and Luritja artist and traditional owner Juanella McKenzie.

The exhibition presents a new body of work by McKenzie that melds cultural knowledges, materials and techniques with her recent research and creative experimentations from the last year. Her multidisciplinary works include painting, weaving, textiles, and installation, and are each grounded in Muda (Dreaming) stories.

At the heart of McKenzie’s approach is the importance of family, knowledge sharing and the desire to present and preserve stories that have been passed down through millions of years. With this exhibition, McKenzie establishes her practice as a powerful form of cultural continuation in a modern world.

Ngatchu Yarta – My Country gives viewers an insight into McKenzie’s deep connection, custodial care and wonder for the Country she so truly loves.
