Creative Communities Partnership Program

Country Arts SA’s Creative Communities Partnership Program aims to provide professional arts and cultural development assistance to regional communities through the employment of a dedicated Arts and Cultural Development Officer for up to 3 years.

In 2014, Country Arts SA is seeking partnership opportunities in the Far West, Limestone Coast and Whyalla. Indigenous focused organisations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Expressions of Interest are invited from these areas and close surrounds from local government, government agencies, established regional development, non-government, arts and cultural, and Indigenous organisations that have a strong focus on developing community capacity and assisting communities to manage their own arts and cultural aspirations.

The successful candidates will partner with Country Arts SA to employ Arts and Cultural Development Officers in regional South Australia. Country Arts SA has an established network of 14 Arts and Cultural Development Officers state-wide.

The Arts and Cultural Development Officers assist with the development of activities, projects and programs in consultation with local communities, arts and cultural groups and regional artists to build community capacity through facilitating arts and cultural funding opportunities, disseminating information about arts and cultural initiatives, building and sustaining networks and collaborating with relevant non arts sectors to assist cultural development outcomes.

Currently Country Arts SA has 8 partnerships with local government and health and environment agencies. Since 2012, Country Arts SA has created 2 new partnerships with the Australian Landscape Trust and Municipal Council of Roxby Downs, and renewed 2 other partnerships with the Tatiara Council and Port Augusta City Council.

Dr Grant Whiteman, Manager of Riverland Operations for the Australian Landscape Trust, said the partnership had helped to build community engagement.

“Working with Country Arts SA helps to strengthen the region’s sense of community and lift the regional profile. It’s a great opportunity to support local regional artists,” he said.

Country Arts SA Chief Executive Officer Steve Saffell said the program’s strength was its community focus and finding new ways of attracting people to the arts.

“The creative Communities Partnership Program has helped grow communities since its inception in 2012. By partnering with like-minded, regionally focused organisations we hope to inspire and develop artists and regional communities to reach their full potential in managing their own arts and cultural ambitions,” he said.

More than one organisation may jointly express an interest in sharing a position where their regional boundaries meet, or where they may affiliate organisations or branches.
