TEMPORARY ART GALLERY – CLOSING NIGHT AND AUCTION

When artists Nadia Cusimano and Paul Gazzola asked the Riverland community to donate or lend their collectables, personal memorabilia, trinkets, objects or anything that meant something to them, to display in Waikerie in a curated art exhibition, they were delighted at the generosity and range of responses.

The Riverland community sent in a treasure trove of art and collectables which is now on view at Temporary Art Gallery (TAG), 32 McCoy Street, Waikerie. TAG brings into focus the community’s history and people’s personal stories by curating their objects in an art gallery space. Artists Nadia and Paul have been in Waikerie in October and November setting up the Gallery and meeting with locals.

There will be a viewing night with drinks on Friday November 14 from 5pm-9pm, with music by Trendy & Wazza, and an auction (with free BBQ lunch) will be held on November 15, 12-3pm, at the Gallery for all donated goods (not all items are for sale). All proceeds from auction will be donated to the Murray Lands Domestic Violence Service.

Nadia said TAG had really engaged with the community as over 150 people have come in so far to share their items and stories. A series of short video interviews that accompany the objects are also being displayed alongside the art works.

“Temporary Art Gallery has created a vibrant space in Waikerie, showing that art is not just an avenue for a few but an open space of possibilities for everyone,” she said.
“We’ve got a great range of objects from an old bike partly converted into a mower, a shawl from the 1920s, old 8mm films from the Waikerie Film Club, metal, glass and wood design work, paintings, tapestries, boomerangs and much more! Every piece has a story. Paul and I are really looking forward to seeing the community come together on viewing night and for the auction and barbecue on Saturday. Everyone is welcome!”
