Friday October 10 is World Mental Health Day and the Riverland will be hosting the first youth run music and arts festival called FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.

This event has been put together by a team of disengaged teenage girls who found their passion for arts through the Creative Careers program. Run from the McCormick Centre in Renmark, the program specialised in giving young people the skills and desire to find a fulfilling career in the arts.

With about a month left of the program, the Creative Careers participants are preparing for the FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS festival. The free festival, held at the Renmark Skate Park from 11am-2pm will feature live music, skating competitions and art workshops.

“There aren’t that many fun things for young people like me to do in the Riverland, Creative Careers have given us the skills to create our own fun events,”  said Chloe Reynolds.

“Creative Careers has helped me follow my dreams, now I want to help other people follow their dreams,” said Sapphire Kelbie.

Shaylene Morgan added: “This event is going to be deadly.”

“It’s important to support young people taking steps towards following their dreams…the program is a great example of the positive influence art can have on young people.” says festival mentor Sara Strachan.

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS Festival is supported by the Renmark Paringa Council, Australian Landscape Trust and Country Arts SA.
