Creating Spaces

Simon Crean (Former Minister for the Arts) Presenting at Creating Spaces

Country Arts SA, Arts and Cultural Development Officer Alysha Herrmann recently attended the first Creating Spaces Conference hosted by Renew Australia and Renew Newcastle.

Renew is an exciting movement working with property owners to enable access to vacant and under utilised spaces for creative projects/enterprise. Renew started in 2008 in Newcastle and now has a national umbrella through Renew Australia.

The Creating Spaces Conference brought together regional based community leaders, creative practitioners and supportive council staff from across the country to Newcastle to hear from the leaders in this field.  The conference explored the successes and failures encountered along the way and provided a road map for best practise in this new way of activating places.

Thinking about activating an empty space in your community?

Contact your local Arts and Cultural Development Officer to talk through your ideas and access support.  Want more insight into the specifics of the conference and how you can apply it to your community? Contact Alysha Herrmann at the River Lands Gallery on 8582 2288.
