Planting Creative Seeds

A number of emerging Riverland artists and students from the Riverland Special School have been benefitting from the combined might of Restless Dance Company and Riverland Youth Theatre during 2012 and 2013 to date.

The joint project ‘From the Ground Up’ is developing a new dance and multimedia peformance which will be showcased at Country Arts SA’s Chaffey Theatre on March 25th.

Students from Riverland Special School recently participated in an intenstive school holiday workshop in January led by Restless dance artist Emma Stokes assisted by Restless tutors: Jo Naumann, Lorcan Hopper and Matthew Shilcock, and RYT dance artist Karen Krueger. A number of students also worked with local digital artists Nic Tubb and Brianna Obst developing digital imagery and animations.

Parents, teachers, family and community (including Country Arts SA’s local Arts and Cultural Development Officer) were invited to a work in progress showing capturing the intensity of the week and a sneak peek of what the final product will offer. Word on the street is that it’s one not to miss!

From the Ground Up has been funded through the Australia Council’s Creative Education Partnerships – Artists in Residence Initiative which operates in parnership with Arts SA and the SA Education Department. The project is also strongly supported by Richard Seidel and Country Arts SA.
