The MakerBot 3D Printer at Berri Library.
If you were in the Riverland you may have seen a big red bus parked in various locations and hooked up to solar panels. That big red bus was the Nomadic Fab Lab, a partnership between reallybigroadtrip and Fab Lab Adelaide to bring the Fab Lab to regional locations.
Adelaide Fab Lab provides space, support and opportunities for individuals and organisations to explore new technologies, new methodologies and how a community can be empowered by technology at the grassroots level. You can find more information about them here.
The Nomadic Fab Lab presented 3 show and tell sessions with 3D printers in Berri, showcasing and sharing what is possible and what may be possible in the future. Sessions were presented by Fee Plumley of reallybigroadtrip, a digital artist herself who got many of the visiting artists and community members excited about the possibilities. Alison Kershaw from DFEEST (and Fab Lab volunteer) was also on hand to answer questions and provide further insight into Fab Lab Adelaide and how it operates.
The presenters and #homejames (the big red bus) stayed with Country Arts SA Arts and Cultural Development Officer Alysha Herrmann while they were here in the Riverland so Alysha filled their heads with fabulous reasons to come back soon!
Fee, Alison and #homejames were also kind enough to drop in for an outside broadcast with ABC Riverland at the River Lands Gallery and to be on hand to meet and greet local artists and answer the many questions we all have about digital fabrication (like what is it?).
Thanks Nomadic Fab Lab!
