The Port Lincoln Presenters Group is hosting Splash Theatre to perform a retro Australiana night of entertainment with their show ‘Me ‘N Me Mates‘ on Friday 9th August at The Media Room, 7.30pm.
Me ‘N Me Mates comprises songs, bush ballads, stories and yarns by some of Australia’s best writers including Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson, Slim Dustry and CJ Dennis. Since premiering at the Adelaide Fringe the show has toured extensively around SA, Victoria and NSW.
The performance celebrates Australian language and humour in a uniquely Australian way. It is an irreverent but always affectionate look at many of the things we hold to be particularly Australian. Performed with energy and verve to ensure a strong audience impact and wide popular appeal, it is accessible, entertaining and thought-provoking.
Combining traditional/bush/folk songs with spoken word scenes based on old poems and yarns has proved to be a winning combination with audiences both young and old. People all over the south eastern states have responded positively to hearing Australian colloquial language (G rated) presented with authenticity, good humour and an irreverent, larrikin attitude.
This is a return visited for Splash Theatre to Port Lincoln and the Port Lincoln Arts Council are busy with preparations for the event.
Board member of the Civic Hall and Port Lincoln Arts Council, Jenny Chillingworth said “Splash Theatre visited a few years ago to perform their show ‘….and their Ghosts May be Heard‘, which was very popular. This show celebrates Australian language and humour in spoken word and song.”
