Mount Gambier Art and Craft enthusiasts, with their sewing machines and scissors, worked with highly regarded community artist Evelyn Roth to create a mural celebrating the Mount Gambier Racing Club 130 year anniversary.
The week long workshops were held at the Allan Scottt Glenburnie Racecourse, commencing with a fascinating talk by Evelyn about some of her many and varied projects, including her car cosy made from recycled VHS tape to wearable capes of grass.
The five metre mural included a painted audience by John Davis and painted horses by local artist Anne Miles. Evelyn led the group in the use of textiles and recycled fabric to create the giant mural.
In addition Evelyn assisted the local artists in making four geographic murals inspired by the Umpherston Sinkhole and the Blue Lake.
Country Arts SA supported the Horsing Around Committee in applying for a grant through the Regional Arts Fund for assistance to bring Evelyn to Mount Gambier to share her skills with the local community.
The mural was launched at the Glenburnie Racecourse on Friday 12 April.
