Empowering Rural Women

Tatiara women are preparing to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 with the launch of a textile wall hanging project.  The initiative was a collaborative effort between the local quilting group, migrant women, Tatiara Community Health, Tatiara District Council and Country Arts SA to mark the International Women’s Day theme “Empowering Rural Women”.

The twelve month project began in 2012 with a range of women of all ages and skills who created a 10inch block in colours of purple, green and white – colours that signify hope, dignity and peace. Each block reflects each participants feeling of being a woman in rural South Australia.

The wall hanging will be officially launched at 2pm on  Friday 8 March  by Councillor Diana Penniment AM at the Tatiara Civic Centre Foyer.
