An exhibition by South East Artist Ivo Tadic showcasing his latest sculptures is on at the Port MacDonnell Community Centre until June 19.
The design of the much anticipated eight mile creek road entrance sculpture is also on display for public comment.
Ivo has been making sculptures for the Limestone Coast community for over 20 years. He has been very generous in sharing his skills and techniques through workshops with young people and the wider community – at one point it can be said, every school child within the region had experienced a workshop in “how to sculpt limestone”.
Ivo’s artistic practice explores themes that consider ecology, culture including symbols and totems, and the ocean. He likes to question mans relationship to the world in which we now live.
He believes that the role of art is to engage, inform and question not alienate the public – to develop community culture and to integrate art with daily life thereby enriching the aesthetic environment.
Early in 2012 the Port MacDonnell Tourist Association and Ivo put a proposal to Country Arts SA for an entrance sculpture to be incorported into the surrounds on the Eight Mile Creek Road. The proposal was successful.
The elements includes three penguins in various poses and a nine metre mast that will be installed at an angle and will include decorative and narrative mosaics and graphics. This will be a collaboration between Ivo and local surfer/ fisherman Jeremy Ievans and the local community.
