Pathways to Creative Careers

Creative Careers is a new 26 week educational arts course for disengaged young people aged 15-20 run from The McCormick Centre in The Riverland.

The Project is funded by ICAN and is driven by Country Arts SA and Australian Landscape Trust’s Arts and Culture Officer Sara Strachan.

Every week up to nine participants learn about a different creative career and par take in a fun arts workshop while earning SACE points.

With five weeks already completed and full attendance by the participants, Creative Careers is off to a great start! Already the participants have learnt about filmmaking, mix media art, Mandala painting, graphic design, screen-printing and went on an excursion to Adelaide during the Fringe Festival.

Recently, Celebrity Artist, Nathalie Dadian ran a Mandala painting workshop for participants of the Creative Careers program.  The Mandala workshop was based around the theme “Values”.

One participant has said “ I am so glad that I got into the Creative Careers course. It’s so fun that it doesn’t even feel like a course. It feels like a day where I get to hang out with amazing people and create art in a non judgmental setting”

Another said “ I never fitted in in high school so I never went. This course is perfect for me and I’m learning a lot each week. I can’t believe how many opportunities are out there for artists!”

The Creative Career participants will soon start planning a big community event that will be held in October this year.

For more information on the program or if you would like to be involved please call Sara on 8586 4777.
