Council celebrates its 125th birthday with a festival and the arts.
Streaky local Johnny Haycraft says his oars barely touched the water when he was chased back to shore by a giant great white near the Streaky Bay jetty more than 40 years ago.
This unforgettable tale will be part of the exhibition ‘Jetty Memories’, put together by locals for locals. The exhibition will feature in the upcoming celebrations to mark the District Council of Streaky Bay’s 125th anniversary.
Streaky Bay Mayor, Robert Stephens said the weekend of celebrations would also mark the opening of the rebuilt jetty pool and revamped foreshore area.
“Council has been undertaking plenty of major projects in the District this year with work on the sports club and health centre well underway, the Wells Street upgrade complete, additional bitumen on the Sceale Bay and the foreshore upgrade underway.
We are very proud of the proactive approach we are taking to improve the quality of life for those in the District and look forward to continued improvement for years to come,” Mr. Stephens said.

The 125th anniversary celebration weekend will feature lots of fun activities such as jumping castles, a merry-go-round, a bucking bull, a velcro wall and sumo suits. Community groups will assist to provide old style games, live music, food and refreshments.
