CASA – finalist in music awards

Country Arts SA is a finalist in the 2013 ART Music Awards

Country Arts SA and The WIRED Lab’s “Southern Encounter” at the eighth Regional Arts Australia National Conference Kumuwuki/Big Wave is a finalist in the 2013 ART Music Awards.

The Art Music Awards, presented by Australasian Performing Right Association and the Australian Music Centre, celebrates the works and achievements of the art music community.

Country Arts SA is a finalist in the categories of both Award for Excellence in a Regional Area and Award for Excellence in Experimental Music for Southern Encounter at the award ceremony to be held on Monday 26th August at the NIDA Parade Theatre, Sydney.

Southern Encounter was a journey from Victor Harbor to Goolwa via a steam train laden with sound and live art, curated by Sarah Last and the Wired Lab.

Country Arts SA Chief Executive Officer Mr Steve Saffell said it was an honour to be nominated.

“To be nominated among such a standout list in an event that celebrates artists’ outstanding achievements is an honour,” he said. “Southern Encounter was a terrific project which deserves the recognition.”

Country Arts SA Southern Encounter Creative Producer Mr Steve Mayhew added: “Being a finalist in the Art Music Awards is testament to the high amount of trust and creative risk taking engendered between the individual sound artists and the communities involved. A very special mention goes to the volunteers of the Steam Ranger who throughout the project were exceptional to work with.”

The Art Music Awards consist of 11 national awards and various state awards across categories covering composition, performance and outstanding contributions by individuals and organisations in Australian music, music education and regional music.
