Betty Sumner visits Riverland

In April, well-known Indigenous Artist Betty Sumner travelled to the Riverland to teach workshops in Basket Weaving, Aboriginal Painting and story telling at the McCormick Centre in Renmark.

Betty worked with local Indigenous artists through the My Art Our Culture program giving them new skills in basket weaving and painting.

“ Learning from Betty was an amazing experience. She has a wealth of knowledge about our culture” said a participant

Betty also taught painting, story telling and even did a hip hop performance for the Creative Careers Crew,  a group of local disengaged youth who are pursuing a career in the arts.

It was great having Betty come to the Riverland and we look forward to her return.
