Walk on the Wildside @919 Wines on 14 April 2013, was a celebration of all that makes the Riverland great, with performances by talented local and regional artists accompanied by fabulous food and wine.

Having just completed an international tour, Adelaide hills group, the Germein Sisters, kicked of the days line-up.  The Germein Sisters visit to the Riverland provided an opportunity for local performers to be inspired by the sisters’ recent success.

Joining the sisters were a variety of local performers, including Renee Cox (previously performing as Evelyn Grey) who delighted audiences with her mix of covers and originals and Jessica Weidenhofer who despite almost pulling out of the event that morning with a last minute case of nerves, completely captured the audience with her ukulele cover of Radio Head’s I’m a Creep’ and other covers.

“It’s just been such a lovely day and I’ve been so impressed with the quality of our local performers. They’ve all had really different styles but I’ve enjoyed all of them”, said Pam Barich of Whistling Kite Wines.

As well as musicians, there were also performances of Fresh Ink monologues by local actors Jamie Butters, Brianna Obst and Tully Bates. Local performer and playwright (and Country Arts Development Officer) Alysha Herrmann also gave a debut performance of her spoken word poem ‘A Real Forum’ and delivered a reading of her blog post ‘One Life?’

Guests on the day were also treated to the Riverland’s best with platters by Illalangi and wines from Whistling Kite and 919 Wines. Walk on the Wild Side was a regional event as part of the Adelaide Food and Wine Festival. There are already plans for future events.

If you’re a performer who’d like to be involved in future events contact Alysha Herrmann at the River Lands Gallery on 8582 2288 or [email protected]
