Celebrating History

About Time 2013 – South Australia’s biggest history festival yet –  presented by History SA has events happening right across the state throughout the month of May.

The festival promotes the State’s wonderful collections, places and stories through an amazing range of history-related activities.

Here in Bordertown, Friends of the Bordertown Library (FOBL) have created the biggest program to date encompassing the Walkway Gallery, historic Clayton Farm, a writing competition and even a twilight tour of the local cemetery.

Showing through the whole month of May at the Walkway Gallery is the exhibition “Art for Fun” by Tatiara’s oldest art group the Tatiara Palette Painters. Also featured is a special collection of “never seen before” artefacts from Bordertown’s historic Clayton Farm Heritage Museum.

The writing competition invites participants to describe an incident where family legend and historical fact collide. Prize categories for – Primary student, Secondary student, Open. Competition begins 11 April. Entries to be handed in to Bordertown Public Library by 15 May. Winners announced Friday 31 May, 5 pm.

You can attend a  workshop on researching your family history – from oral history to making use of library and internet resources. Participants will be encouraged to talk about and write down their family stories. Workshop includes afternoon tea.

You can check the full About Time program out at abouttime.sa.gov.au or contact the Bordertown Library on 08 8752 1473
