About

Country Arts SA, in partnership with SA Power Networks, would like to invite you to the launch of artist Jane Skeer’s new work Pine Tree Green in the Mount Gambier Civic Centre Foyer.

Country Arts SA artist-in-residence and former Millicent local Jane Skeer has re-purposed 1,000 plastic gardening pots to create a dynamic new artwork Pine Tree Green that is inspired by the pine tree forests we see across the Limestone Coast.

2018 marks the 21st year of the partnership between SA Power Networks and Country Arts SA and a new initiative to broaden access to the arts throughout regional South Australia. Pine Tree Green is the first project to be supported by this initiative and demonstrates the commitment of both SA Power Networks and Country Arts SA to championing innovative art that showcases the ingenuity and creative excellence of regional artists and the communities we work with.

An emerging contemporary artist, Skeer works predominantly in sculpture and installation with discarded objects and mass produced materials of the everyday. Known for her playful works that engage all the senses, her art prompts us to rethink our relationship with these items.
“I had a light bulb moment when I walked past a hardware store and saw a few of these green plastic pots lying on their side… The way the light was coming through them reminded me of the light through the forest canopy… I hope the fact this was made of plastic will make people think. Maybe we should be making gardening pots out of a different material,” Jane Skeer
