About

Southern Adelaide’s much-loved Hopgood Theatre is reopening this October following a $6 million transformation – and it’s set to be bigger, brighter and better than ever.

The theatre will celebrate its return with a Grand Opening Gala on Friday 24 October directed by Zac Tyler and produced by Amplified House.

The Gala will feature a stellar line up of South Australian artists and will be hosted by Helpmann Award-winner Michael Griffiths and acclaimed cabaret star Amelia Ryan.”

As the largest theatre in southern Adelaide (481 seats), Hopgood’s upgrade includes:

• Fresh interiors with state-of-the-art sound, lighting and acoustics
• A bold new identity
• Improved accessibility, including 10 new wheelchair and companion spaces
• A revitalised front of house and bar
• A new intimate performance space for smaller productions

The reopening marks a new chapter in a renewed partnership between the City of Onkaparinga and Country Arts SA, ensuring Hopgood continues to serve as the region’s cultural heart for decades to come.
