Melanie Koolmatrie (Ngarrindjeri, Peramungk and Boandik) weaver and dancer, will teach traditional and contemporary weaving techniques to make your own woven item.
Weaving is a central cultural practice for Ngarrindjeri people, with several internationally respected artists within the community. Melanie is an emerging visual artist and will be immersing you in the cultural practice of weaving and learning to make your very own basket
Underage participants must be accompanied by an adult supervisor for the duration of the entire workshop.
Melanie Koolmatrie is a proud Ngarrindjeri, Ramindjeri, Boandik, and Paramungk multidisciplinary artist from South Australia, known for works exploring cultural connections to water, using painting, ceramics, and weaving, often inspired by her upbringing in Raukkan and Meningie and her studies at Flinders University and Adelaide College of the Arts, with her art serving as a healing way to share stories of Country.
