The Southern Metropolitan Music Festival began in 2006 as a regional festival of the well-known Public Primary Schools Festival of Music to provide access for students in the southern metropolitan region.
The Southern Metropolitan Music Festival, although not a carbon copy, is based on the repertoire and performance of the Adelaide Festival of Music, which is celebrating it’s 123rd year. It includes approximately 350 choir members from a range of southern schools, a primary schools orchestra and a primary school dance troupe. It also provides primary and high school age students with an opportunity to perform as assisting artists either on stage or in the foyer prior to the performance.
