This screening is presented as part of Country Arts SA’s Arts on Screen program.

Celebrate the giant of modern art on the big screen. Audiences are invited to enjoy an intimate, behind-the-scenes documentary about acclaimed exhibition Henri Matisse: the Cut-Outs, filmed exclusively at The Museum of Modern Art in New York and at Tate Modern, where it was hailed as the most successful exhibition in the gallery’s history.

Contributions from those who knew Matisse and experts such as curators, historians and both gallery directors bring to life his final artistic triumph.

CONNECT with Matisse – Exhibition on Screen

Have you ever asked yourself, how does a curator select works for an exhibition? What influences their selections and how do they decide what goes where?

Be a part of CONNECT and meet Alice Clanachan, Assistant Curator of Prints, Drawings and Photographs from the Art Gallery of South Australia. Alice will introduce you to the film and offer some insights into the way curators from around the world undertake building a new exhibition.

You will hear about Alice’s approach to her curatorial practice and how she makes decisions about placement, colour and light when she’s working an exhibition.

Admission is FREE – simply show your ticket to the screening.
