Come and join Port Pirie Youth Theatre as they embark on an adventure back in time to the 60’s to bring to you the fantastically fun and much loved Broadway favourite ‘Hairspray’. Featuring well known musical numbers ‘ Welcome to the 60’s’ and ‘ You Can’t Stop the Beat’ the story follows a regular teenager Tracey Turnblad as she learns that it is what is on the inside that counts, and what counts more than anything is standing up for what is right. Tracey can’t believe her luck when against all odds she wins a place on the Corny Collins Show along with the attention of local heart throb Link Larkin. But things get complicated when Tracey realises that dancing on the show means supporting producer Velma Von Tussles backwards ideas about segregation. Tracey takes on the status quo, showing the world that people cannot be judged based on size or colour, but must be valued for who they are. A meaningful, fun and thoroughly entertaining show, this is not one to be missed.
