Entries are NOW open for ArtsUp’s ‘Up, Up and Away’ SALA exhibition which has a much anticipated launch at 2pm on 23 August 2015.
Artists across the Eyre Peninsula are encouraged to get involved, get inspired and get creative for an exhibition of West Coast artwork including photography that explores and reimagines connection to place and, celebrates our diversity and resilience as a regional arts community.
ArtsUp President Rosemaree Skelton says, “ArtsUp wanted to have a broad theme and include photography to encourage artists to enter our first exhibition since 2006. While we don’t have prize money this time around we are appealing to artists to become a part of the rejuvenation of visual arts in Streaky Bay. An ArtsUp tradition was to have close ties with artists and arts groups along the West Coast so; we invite every artist residing on the EP to come and join us on our new journey.”
After an 8 year recess, Streaky Bay’s ArtsUp are back with a keen committee and renewed enthusiasm, re-emerging with a strong community arts voice of 24 members and volunteers.
ArtsUp aim to: be a cultural leader in the arts; encourage and inspire existing and emerging artists and their networks across Eyre Peninsula; market, promote and resource local arts; invest in local artists, create opportunities in skills and professional development; undertake community art projects; act as a host for touring exhibitions and; advocate for art opportunities from outside of our region.
It seemed fitting that ArtsUp would start over again with a SALA exhibition. August is visual art month in South Australia! Since its inception in 1998 the annual SALA Festival has celebrated and promoted the diverse talents of South Australian Living Artists. SALA is an innovative open access visual arts festival presenting thousands of artists through unique collaborations and exhibitions in hundreds of exhibition spaces throughout metropolitan and regional South Australia.
The ArtsUp ‘Up, Up and Away’ 2015 exhibition will be a truly unique way to celebrate great art in our community during the SALA Festival as part of a wider state celebration of the visual arts.
With an opportunity to join the arts conversation, view and buy some great art, win great prizes in the fundraising raffle and become a ‘Friend of ArtsUp’ why not immerse yourself in the Streaky Bay visual arts revival !
ArtsUp wish to sincerely acknowledge the support and collaboration of Country Arts SA, the District Council of Streaky Bay and SALA.
