In Wulamanayuwi (pronounced “wool-a-man-aye-you”) and the Seven Pamanui a beautiful girl runs away from her wicked stepmother and meets the seven spirit-beings who, in a quest to seek revenge and justice, lead her back home via a magical path full of adventures.
Sound familiar? This is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Australian-style with songs and puppetry from the Tiwi Islands north of Darwin.
Wulamanayuwi and the Seven Pamanui elicits shrieks of delight from the younger audience members while adults gleefully appreciate a return to childhood – but with some adult in-jokes thrown in for good measure.
