KickstArt project for the Western Eyre

Art creation in the Western Eyre has been ‘KickstArted’ by an innovative community visual arts project to be delivered from 25 June to 9 July 2015.

Country Arts SA will be facilitating the project in partnership with community Arts Groups WestArt in Ceduna and ArtsUp in Streaky Bay.

In November 2014, Minister for the Arts Jack Snelling announced $8,000 in funding towards KickstArt.  This cross-regional collaboration aims to create new works which explore the tension between two and three dimensional space through an exploration of the place the artists call home.

Throughout the community arts residency, highly regarded artist Annalise Rees will immerse local artists and the wider community in a conversation about landscape and seascape. The project will have an Artist in Schools Residency in the Ceduna and Streaky Bay districts.  Crossways Lutheran School and Ceduna, Miltaburra and Streaky Bay Area Schools will provide the opportunity for young people to work alongside Ms Rees.

All participants including young people will be encouraged to produce new works inspired or created by the workshops that will be showcased in exhibitions during the 2015 SALA Festival in Streaky Bay, Ceduna’s Eyrescapes at Oysterfest 2015 and Our Mob 2015 (Regional in Port Augusta, September 2015 and Statewide, Adelaide 2015).

At the time of the announcement Mr Snelling said, “We realise that those in regional and remote South Australia are doing it tough. With Country Arts SA we are ensuring cultural projects are available to all South Australians and that communities are able to identify their own arts needs and aspirations.

“We can see that KickstArt will have a positive and real impact on the sustainability and long term viability of these visual arts groups.”
