21 South Australian community arts projects supported through Regional Arts Fund Grants

Minister for the Arts, Senator George Brandis QC has announced $148,143 from the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund to support 21 new community arts projects right across regional South Australia.

The successful projects, which commence this month, cover a broad range of arts practices from theatre and natural dying to street art and metalwork with art programs for people with acquired brain injuries and professional development opportunities for artists.

Country Arts SA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steve Saffell said: “The Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund provides regional South Australian’s with the opportunity to develop their own arts practice and benefit the cultural, artistic and social aspects of their communities.”

The applications, which were received from right around regional South Australia, included six first-time applicants. Many of the projects provide workshops for up-skilling community members and five focus on young people as the main beneficiaries.

The Regional Arts Fund is one way the Australian Government supports regional artists and arts organisations to develop their artistic practice and produce works and experiences to benefit their local communities. The funding is targeted at activities that will have long term cultural, economic and social benefits for individuals and communities through the development of partnerships and cultural networks, by providing artists with professional development and employment opportunities, and by supporting arts and community development projects that provide local communities with the opportunity to participate in, and access cultural activities.

The Regional Arts Fund has an emphasis on youth, disadvantaged, remote and Indigenous communities. The Regional Arts Fund is administered on behalf of the Australian Government by Regional Arts Australia and its member organisations which includes Country Arts SA.

The next funding round closes on 17 August 2015 for projects that commence after 1 January 2015. More information about the Regional Arts Fund and our other funding opportunities is available here on our website: countryarts.org.au/news/need-funding-for-that-great-arts-idea/
