Burning Issues
Burning Issues in no longer on tour
Curated By Jo McLeay
Burning Issues commemorates the devastating fires on the Southern Eyre Peninsula in January 2005.
Assembled by the Port Lincoln community, the artwork, artefacts and documentation on display, commemorate their losses from this event, but also celebrate their communal spirit in tragic times.
Burning Issues is more than an exhibition, it was a process for identifying, documenting and rebuilding, for reassessing relationships and priorities, opening hearts, and finding a way to move forward.
This exhibition is a collective expression of what makes the communities of the Eyre Peninsula special.

Burning Issues
Burning Issues commemorates the devastating fires on the Southern Eyre Peninsula in January 2005. Assembled by the Port Lincoln community, the artwork, artefacts and documentation commemorate not only their losses from this event, but also celebrate their communal spirit in tragic times. Burning Issues is more than an exhibition-it was a process for identifying, documenting and rebuilding, for reassessing relationships and priorities, opening hearts and finding a way to move forward.
Much of the content of Burning Issues is concerned with the expression of deeply felt emotions. It contains thought-inspiring images that can be used to motivate and engage students across a diversity of learning areas. At one level it is an art exhibition and can be used to study the role of artists (and non-artists) in documenting historical events. It is also a social document and exploration of natural and built environments and how natural forces impact upon both.
