Our Mob on Tour
Curated By Susan Jenkins
Our Mob on Tour is no longer on tour
As part of 2008 Country Arts SA - Visual Arts Touring Program
Exhibition Develpment supported by SICAD and The Adelaide Festival Centre.
Our Mob on Tour is an exhibition of works by established, emerging and lesser-known South Australian Indigenous artists from regional and remote areas that celebrates the diversity of Indigenous traditions, cultures, histories and environments across the state.
Some artists paint on canvas or silk, others make sculptural forms with grasses, wood, seeds and shells. All express themes important to them, both personal and political, with works about water and food, hunting
and harvest, spiritual homelands, ancestral narratives, erased cultures and stolen generations as well as resilience and cultural revival.
The exhibition shares the energy and spirit of contemporary Indigenous traditions and invites us to experience, learn and respect the diversity of cultures that exists in our state.

Our Mob on Tour
Works by established and emerging SA Indigenous artists from regional and remote areas celebrating the diversity of traditions, cultures, histories and environments across the state. It was curated by Susan Jenkins from an exhibition originally developed by SICAD and the Adelaide Festival Centre. It shares the energy and spirit of contemporary indigenous traditions and invites us to experience, learn and respect the diversity of cultures that exists in our state.
It is a rich resource for developing a knowledge and understanding of contemporary Aboriginal art. The fact that all that artists are drawn from regions across South Australia adds to its value in confirming the vitality and credibility of art produced within regional communities. Diversity of media, styles, technologies and content as represented within this exhibition addresses issues and studies linked to contradicting cultural stereotypes associated with Aboriginal art practice and culture.
