The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy comes to Port Augusta

23rd June 2008
Port Augusta

Monday 23 June 2008

Escape inside an enchanting travelling theatre tent and discover a world of magic and intrigue!

On Saturday 28 June 2008 you have the chance to experience a unique and magical theatre production when The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy by Finegan Kruckemeyer comes to The Institute Theatre in Port Augusta as part of Port Augusta Re-Imagines!

A beautiful, dark and funny theatre show for children aged 10+ and theatre lovers of all ages, The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy will take you inside a special theatre space where you will find out how Cheeseboy has ended up marooned on Earth and how he is struggling to find his parents after his home planet has been reduced to a bubbling fondue.

Following a sold-out season at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre, Slingsby brings its critically acclaimed production to Port Augusta.

The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy is inspired by stories of many eras, including the legend of Superman, the art of filmmaker Tim Burton (Edward Sissorhands, Big Fish, Nightmare Before Christmas), travelling Magic Lantern shows of the 17th and 18th centuries and classic Greek tragedy.

This wonder-filled production is directed by Andy Packer, the Artistic Director of Slingsby.  Andy has previously assistant directed for State Opera of South Australia and Windmill Performing Arts. Andy’s productions of Bastien and Bastienna, which was awarded Best Opera in the Light Year Awards and La Voix Humaine won Best Double Bill in the 2006 Advertiser Oscarts.

Director Andy Packer says, “The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy is a play that will transport the audience to a world of theatrical magic and the unknown.  It promises to provide a rich and engaging theatre experience.”

Set to lush original music by Quincy Grant, The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy also stars Stephen Sheehan and Sam McMahon.

Stephen’s film credit include Australian feature films Shine and Serenades and he performed and produced 13 seasons of the award winning solo show Go By Night nationally and internationally in the UK, New Zealand, Canada and Iceland.

The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy was a hitat the recent ASSITEJ 2008 international festival held in Adleiade in May 2008.  As a result this production has been invited to tour to Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Egypt, Hungary, Serbia, the USA and the UK.

The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy at The Institute Theatre on Saturday 28 June 2008 at 6pm.  Tickets are Full $15, Concession and Under 17 $8, Family (2 adults and 2 children) $38.  Bookings phone 8641 9176 or visit the Re-Imagines Booking Office at the Fountain Gallery, 43 Flinders Terrace, Port Augusta.
