Port Augusta local Renee Ellis appointed to Country Arts SA Board of Trustees

Chief Executive Officer of Country Arts SA, Mr Ken Lloyd is pleased to announce the appointment of Renee Ellis to Country Arts SA’s Board of Trustees, whose expertise and experience will help develop and nurture the arts in regional South Australia. Renee has been appointed by the Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts, the Hon John Hill MP as the representative of the Local Government Association.
Renee Ellis is a councillor for Port Augusta City Council and a lawyer and has recently started her own business specialising in community development and advocacy for Aboriginal Communities.
Renee intends to bring the skills she has developed as a lawyer and social justice advocate to the Trust to provide a balanced opinion and fresh ideas.
Newly appointed Country Arts SA Trustee, Ms Renee Ellis says she is thrilled to have the opportunity to help increase access to the arts throughout the State and looks forward to seeing the arts make a difference in communities across regional South Australia.
"There are many opportunities for the arts to intertwine with community and economic development in our regional and remote centres - the possibilities are endless,” she said.
Country Arts SA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ken Lloyd says he looks forward to working with Renee and the Board of Trustees to continually improve the arts in regional South Australia.
“Having already been a part of the local arts scene in Port Augusta, Renee has insight into the needs and challenges of regional communities and the role arts play in the development of social capital,” he said.
Renee will join other recently appointed Trustees including, Mardi Jennings, representing the Murray and Mallee region, Allan Aughey, representing the Barossa, Yorke and Mid North region, Winnie Pelz, representing the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island region and Tim Scholz representing the Eyre, Western and far north region.
The newly appointed Trustees will join current Country Arts SA Trustees, Mt Stan Thomson, Ms Anne Levy, Ms Alexandrea Cannon.
Mr Steve Grieve continues as Chair of the Board of Trustees with the new trustees being appointed for two years commencing from 1 April 2009.
Country Arts SA is one of South Australia’s largest arts organisations which provides arts services across regional south Australia through the management of performing arts centres situated in Mount Gambier, Renmark, Port Pirie, Whyalla and Noarlunga with performing and visual arts touring programs and community cultural development programs.
