Local Stages is a professional performance development and presentation program that currently operates in Mount Gambier and Pt Augusta.
The Main Objectives of Local Stages are to:
-
Develop relationships with regional artists.
-
Create opportunities for artists to access Country Arts SA theatres and resources.
-
Commission and produce innovative new work.
-
Create programs which develop professional practice.
Local Stages works with regionally based artists of any age who identify themselves as interested or working in performance … this can include outdoor performance, text-based theatre, self devised work, physical theatre, contemporary movement and dance, site based work, puppetry, visual theatre, performance art, theatre for young people, circus, contemporary performance, youth theatre and cabaret …
Partnerships, mentorships and projects are often developed with the regional based artist through the Creative Producer, Local Stages in-conjunction with a wide network of professionally based artists around Australia.
Local Stages also coordinates the Varcoe’s Foundry Residency in Mount Gambier – a comprehensive and well resourced performance based residency that provides artists an opportunity to develop professional, relevant and tour ready work to South Australian audiences.
